My Gift

Happy Birthday to ME....!

Today, I celebrate the beautiful milestone of 40 and it feels good.  Today, I own my DIVA believing my soul has a renewed existence and purpose.

Yes, today I turned 40 years old with a smile on my face I say thank you God for blessing me with each and every trial and tribulation that I have gone through and the happiness and comfort that has followed.  Today, I respect the lessons it took to get here and acknowledge the joy that is greater than myself.

MY GIFT
My daughter said something to me without even realizing what she was saying (teaching), she said and I quote "Mama, I only want to do things that will be of a SERVICE to others."  Today my gift is not tangible or has a high dollar price tag or is at the bottom of a wine glass; today my gift is life and all that it has to offer and all that I have to GIVE.

Thank you to my beautiful, strong, intelligent, couragous, sweet, diva-in-trainging daughter for my gift....(YOU)....Happy Birthday to ME....life is good.

I am Everything You Thought I Ought Not Be

I am my mother, who gave me existence; the foundation from which I build this life.
I am my sister's independence; my auntie's hint of gospel.
I am my daughter's strength, my sister-in-law's confidence, and my niece's individuality.
I am my neighbor's kindness and my employer's education.
I am that woman that you look at a second time and wonder what just happened.
I am a force to be reckoned with, but throughly enjoyed.
I am highly favored; yet fearfully and wonderfully made.
I am unknown in my own darkness.
I am a phenomenal woman with an undefined swagger and a spirit that will set you free.
I am a woman like no other........

Phenomenal is what they tell me!

What I Know....

Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.

I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.

I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.

I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.

I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.

I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.

I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.

I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

...from the moment she recognized  my voice, I read her this poem.  From the moment she could speak her first words, I taught her the meaning. By the time she entered pre-school she had it memorized, if you ask my daughter today what or who she is, her response would be phenomenal.  This poem is important to me, because I believe this is what my mom was telling me when she said "don't ever stop loving me, always love who you are" and before anything I am a WOMAN....
